If you've lived  in Minnesota long enough, you know how nasty our weather can be.  Severe storms hit at every season, and those storms can cause major damage to homes in our area.  One area of a home that can get hit hard is the roof. If you own a home in the Twin Cities, you should be aware of signs of storm damage to a roof, because sooner or later you're likely to deal with it.  If a storm his your area, the first thing to do is to go out and take a look at your house after the weather has cleared.

We recommend you contact a storm damage repair contractor to give you their professional opinion.  If you do have damage to your home, you'll also need to notify your insurance agent as quickly as possible.  Most contractors will work with your insurance company on your behalf, so check with them to see if you need to file a claim to get things going.

Signs of Storm Damage to Roofing

Shingles Missing: Missing shingles indicate a problem with your roof. Those shingles protect what is underneath, and when they are blown off or otherwise dislodged, moisture can get into the structure under your roofing.  Getting those shingles repaired or replaced before the next storm comes through is critical. Otherwise your home may suffer even more damage.  So take a visual inspection of your roof from the ground, using a pair of binoculars or a ladder.  We DO NOT recommend you get up on your roof, especially in the winter - leave that to a professional roofing company. Hail Storms:  If hail has hit your area, your roof may have sustained damage. When a hailstorm comes through, it often leaves behind damage, no matter how small the hail stones. Even pea-sized hail can cause problems with roofing.  If the hail is large it can break windows, go through roofing materials, and even dent or crack siding. Roof damage from hail isn't always obvious from the ground. A professional roof inspection will probably be required.  A good rule of thumb is that if a neighbor has had hail damage to their roof, you may have as well.  And that damage needs to get repaired as soon as possible, so it's wise to contact a storm damage repair contractor quickly.
