Spring cleaning is upon us here in the Twin Cities, and with it comes the need to clean those cracks and crevices that are hiding everywhere around your home. You don’t want to leave a spot untouched. If you've got vinyl windows, they're no exception - they won't clean themselves, so add this to your to-do list.

Cleaning the Exterior of Your Windows

Boost the curb appeal of your home by having a cleaner, better-looking window overall. You want them to stand out, too look good and to make a statement. The only way this is going to happen is if you clean them correctly.

Mix up vinegar, warm water and a splash of lemon together. This is what you’re going to scrub the windows with. Use it on the glass, the frame, everything. Scrub it all down. You then want to use a lint-free washcloth to go over the windows and wipe them off. This then leaves no streaks and removes any build up that is on the windows.

Cleaning the Interior

When you go to clean the inside of the window, make sure to use the same solution but clean all of those smaller areas. The tracks and other cracks will need to be cleaned out entirely so that you do not miss a spot from inside these cracks. Elbow grease is going to come in handy in this section, so make sure to scrub away.

You again want to use a lint-free rag to wipe away the water and mix from the outside of the window and leave it streak free.

Always clean the windows on an overcast day when the sun is not causing streaks to happen on the outside of the windows. You want to reduce the appearance of these streaks as much as possible. If you find that your windows still have streaks, look muddy or foggy even after cleaning them correctly, it might be time to replace them. The same is true for windows that have condensation issues.
